Peterborough overview
Peterborough is a town in Hillsborough County at the meeting point of the Contoocook and Nubanusit rivers, incorporated in 1760. Its downtown is compact and organized along the water, with mill-era brick buildings converted to retail, restaurant and office use.
The town established the first tax-supported free public library in the United States in 1833.
